August 17, 2018, 2:46 pm. As I continue to work on the materials for this class, I have continued to uncover what I hope all of you find as neat and creative activities for you to learn with (it is okay...that whole dangling participle thing is a Latin rule, not really for English). I will be trying to incorporate a variety of projects and presentations such that you will be able to both demonstrate your own understanding as well as enlarge the understanding of your classmates (and your teacher!) on many topics. As we go through the semester, please give me feedback, preferably in writing and with suggestions, so that I can continue to fine-tune the course...there is always room for improvement!

August 28: Upon some reflection, I think our Biozone workbooks will be much of the backbone of our semester...the vocabulary lists and free-response questions will provide much of the reinforcement of topical information that we need for learning the material. I will provide websites/URLs for outside readings, and, of course, you have the two hardcover texts for further reference. I have some introductory power-points on most topics, so we will have a common "launching point" for all. Work through section onCells and Tissues for next Tuesday. (Do have fun on Monday, Labor Day!)
September 3: some of you may need more time to complete the homeostasis lab...do so Friday. Have for Tuesday.
Cell project due Tuesday, Sept. 18...Florence effect: changed to October 10.
Cell project due Tuesday, Sept. 18...Florence effect: changed to October 10.
September 05: attached below is the next series of ppts on cells and tissues; notes due Wed, Sept 12; expect a quiz on that day as well...Florence effect: check notes on Friday, October 5.

September 09, 2018: just a short note. Due to the likelihood of our losing Thursday and Friday this coming week, I will plan on a quiz Wednesday, at the latest, and we will then continue the following week. More as we get there...Florence effect: Friday, October 5...this will be brief.
September 10: figure on working on the next few sections in Biozone: Integument & Homeostasis and the Skeletal System. I expect that we will be experiencing a shortened week...just don't know how short yet. Since we will also be "chrome-book-less," this will mean that we will be "old school" for a time. Hang in there...we got this! Update: October 02: keep going and figure these to be done by Monday, October 08.
October 03: yes, expect an unusual quiz Monday...you may use any handwritten notes to assist you. Topics include anatomical regions, basic biological chemistry, cells and tissues, skin/integument, and skeletal vocabulary. I expect that you will never have taken a quiz like this before...remember, handwritten or hard copy notes, no chrome-book access during quiz.
October 10: projects today...everyone excited! Keep moving on in Biozone: Muscular system, nervous system...aim for next Wednesday, the 17th. I will check at beginning of class for all sections. Obviously my goal for you is to complete the whole workbook...seven more sections after nervous system...couple weeks each...yes, we have this! Now to come up with other activities for each...I am working on it!
October 15: below will be a bunch more powerpoints. Don't forget Biozone check Wednesday...thru nervous system (first five sections, all inclusive). As per discussion in class, on the 16th, notes on these will be checked October 29th. Revised to October 30 due to modified schedule.

October 16: visit this site and take a screen shot of your quiz results; submit prior to eleven am today. Feel free to practice using the other quizzes available on this site...they are plentiful! https://www.purposegames.com/game/label-the-skeleton-gamewww.purposegames.com/game/label-the-skeleton-game

October 26, 2018: good interactive down in the article for muscles: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321617.phpwww.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321617.php
October 30: let's figure to finish packet 6 on muscles no later than the 31st; you will receive packet 7 as well as some other materials, which I would like completed by November 8th. Earlier is better, as I am not sure when end of this three week period will be. Keep going in Biozone as well...we will discuss looking over more material there later in the week.
November 02: below is powerpoint file for Nervous system

November 05: continue on nervous system materials; try to have handouts completed and returned to be by end of class Wednesday, as I don't yet know when the end of this first half of the second six weeks will be, but it could be Thursday or Friday, so this will enable me to have progress reports quickly. Include the muscle listing I handed out this morning...work in teams! Tuesday...done yet?
November 09: realization time...seven weeks left to the semester. Rather than give a handful of dates, just know that all of Biozone is due completed by January 14, 2019. I will break it down into 3 assignments, all in T3, so consider that there will be no extensions past the 14th. If you have sections completed early, bring them to me to record and I will do so. There will be other packets as we go along, as well as other assessments, but this will let you start your longer term planning for success.
November 15: just found a resource which might prove useful (it is from an awesome biology instructor, her posthumous present to the world): http://www.explorebiology.com/apbiology/notes/www.explorebiology.com/apbiology/notes/

December 05: you should be working steadily through Biozone. I will be uploading a handful of powerpoints that track, from Marieb, so that you will have
another resource for these systems (lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive). Watch your time so that you can complete all work on time. I will likely have a few more handouts to fill in some gaps. Great job on the disease presentations.
